Located in West Saint Paul, Minn., Southview Country Club has been host of the Tapemark Minnesota PGA Pro-Am for decades.  Opened in 1922 and professionally designed by Tom Vardon in 1927. The name Vardon is a familiar name historically in the game of golf. Tom was the long-time head professional at nearby White Bear Yacht Club and an accomplished player early in his career.  He had nine top-10 finishes in the Open Championship including a runner up finish in 1903 at Prestwick to his brother, Harry. Harry was a 6-time Open Champion. 

 

Tom contributed to the design of over 40 courses in his native England as well as the Upper Midwest of the United States.  Southview Country Club went on to adopt some suggested changes in 1936 by the venerable, A.W. Tillinghast and later went through significant changes in the late 1960s by Jerry Pirkl.

Southview is known today for the contribution it has made over many decades to the neighboring community by playing host to the Tapemark Minnesota PGA Pro-Am.  Each year, the best professional players in the region tee it up alongside eager amateurs to raise funds and awareness for people in need.  Although considered a shorter golf course by standards of the modern day, Southview provides an excellent arena for determining the best player in the region every year.
